Meeting a legend
Happy January! I hope you’re finding joy in this cold month. When I bump into people in public, I’m often asked about when my next newsletter is coming out, so thank you to all who take a few moments to read this! I will be posting my newsletters into my blog now to keep you updated and informed! Skip ahead if you just want the Art News Update.
For those detailed people:
It’s fun to get to know people a little better by talking about something other than what they do for living, so I thought I would share a few other things I’ve been doing, reading, and listening to lately…
I started off my year with a trip to Mexico which was lovely. We haven’t gone to a hot climate over the holidays before & it was amazing to see the entire skyline light up with fireworks on New Years Eve in Puerto Vallarta! But the price was high as I spent 2 weeks in bed when I got home with what they thought was pneumonia & then something strange with my lungs, but after testing & a prescribed steroid inhaler, things started clearing up. Phew! I don’t have time to be sick! Must have been from the ENTIRE PLANE hacking away. Brutal!
I have been enjoying the Mel Robbins Podcast. I especially enjoyed Episode 255, “If you Struggle with Stress & Anxiety, This will change your life”. Here’s the link if you’d like to have a listen.
I have been reading “Unreasonable hospitality” by Will Guidara. One line from Chapter 2 says, “Most important, we have an opportunity—a responsibility—to make magic in a world that desperately needs more of it.” And I love that.
Art News Update: Meeting a Legend!!
I was invited to come and paint at the Banff Springs Hotel for the Western Connection Radiance Gala on January 25th. It was a night to remember as I had the privilege of seeing Jay Leno live! I also got up the nerve to walk over & ask him if we could take a picture together. “Hello Mr. Leno. I was wondering if I could have a photo with you?”Me: Awkward smile. Him: ‘Of course!’ and he leaned into me for the selfie!! I showed my table mates and they said, “You got the cheek lean!!” Haha! He made my night and I was thrilled to capture the moment. I’m happy I took a risk & felt uncomfortable for a brief moment to meet a legend! That’s the one I painted of the Northern Lights which I called “Radiate light”. (right)
It’s been a high production month, as I work on a new colourful Sunrise/Sunset series! I always add to my wildflowers, mountains and forest scenes as well but it’s fun to play and introduce new ideas. (Click here to view them in “New works”)
Commissions are rolling in, so if you’ve been thinking about ordering one, send me a message or come visit the studio to chat about it. I am happy to help with sizing and ideas in person or on the phone.
Which is a good segue into the next topic, 2025 pricing. There will be a price increase by the end of February. Cost of everything has gone up, so we must adjust as well in the art world. So, if you have had your eye on something and have been considering purchasing some art, I encourage you to make that purchase before the end of February to get in on my 2024 prices.
Side note: I do double/triple check for spelling mistakes in this newsletter & almost always someone will kindly let me know of a mistake someplace haha. I am an artist, a painter, and not a writer. I will buy that person who sees the error a glass of wine at my next art show!
If you have any more questions, feel free to send me a message.
Thanks for reading,
xox,
